About

KopperTop is a farm in Liberty, NC that specializes in recreational therapy. It is completely run by volunteers so we need your help! There are chickens, guinea hens, goats, donkeys, horses, bunnies, 7 dogs and over 80 cats on the farm so if you love animals, volunteering with us is definitely for you! The mission of KopperTop is to "empower, enable and enhance the quality of life for individuals with special needs using animal-assisted recreational therapy activities."

When volunteers first arrive on Saturdays, they can plan to help out with making sure every animal has been fed and has clean water, helping to clean nesting bins and collect eggs and helping to clean bunny cages. Riders come for therapy lessons between 9:30-11am, so volunteers will help bring the horses up from their pastures and prepare the grooming and saddling equipment. Once riders arrive at the farm, volunteers help to groom and saddle the horses (don't worry if you don't know how to do this- there will always be someone that is happy to teach you!) and then will accompany the riders onto the trails either by leading the horse, side walking or following behind for extra support. Many of our riders have physical and/or intellectual disabilities so its imperative that we stay alert to ensure their safety, as we must be prepared for anything to happen when working with animals.

Once the lessons are done, volunteers help to unsaddle the horses, put away all equipment, and then start on other projects that need to be done around the farm such as cleaning up trails, fixing fences, cleaning water tubs, etc.

Thank you so much for your interest and we look forward to seeing you on the farm soon!
