Work with OZARK SLOW FOOD for the semester!

Slow Food International is an international organization.  Ozark Slow Food is our local chapter.

Ozark Slow Food has worked with our local community in a variety of ways for more than 8 years.

  • The Local Food Guide, a directory of farms, produce, restaurants, local breweries and more is available at Farmer’s Markets and other venues around the state. It is a project that has been sponsored by Ozark Slow Food (OSF) since it’s inception.
  • The OSF Microgrant Program awards grants to local farmers over five counties, to promote novel crops, new products, and to provide that extra financial boost sometimes needed for local farm expansion and development.
  • “Hoopla” is entering it’s fourth year as a beloved Fayetteville cultural event. A Springtime sit-down dinner with wine, local brews and live music, in which a rotating selection of Fayetteville’s finest chefs use local ingredients (often the product of “hoop houses”) to create mouth-watering courses, this much anticipated fundraiser has become an institution. OSF uses the money raised to support the Local Food Guide.
  • “Fund Your Farmer” is a jazzier, more interactive event with live music and dancing, where exquisite “tasting” samples are available from the best local restaurants. Affordable for all, attendees mingle and graze while competing for premium offerings from local businesses and organizations. Past events have included everything from scented oils to one-of-a-kind signed prints and weekend getaways in the not-to-be-missed Live Auction which supports OSF’s Microgrant granting program to local farmers.

Slow Food was started in Italy in the 1980s with the initial aim of defending regional traditions, good food, gastronomic pleasure and a slow pace of life. In over two decades of history, the movement has evolved to embrace a comprehensive approach to food that recognizes the strong connections between plate, planet, people, politics and culture. Today Slow Food represents a global movement involving thousands of projects and millions of people in over 160 countries.
