Fostering with SMRAS

About

You are a lifesaver!

Thank you for your interest in fostering with SMRAS! To save as many lives as we do, we rely on our foster families to provide loving, temporary homes for our pets in need. Whether you foster neonatal kittens, senior dogs, support a dog going through heartworm treatment or just foster for a few nights to help out another foster, we are SO grateful for your support!

We specifically need fosters that have fenced in yards with no other animals and we also need kitten fosters. We would love to get some our longer stay dogs into foster care!

The shelter reserves the right to prioritize/select animals suitable for foster and we are most often in need of fosters for:

    • Animals that are very stressed and need a break from the shelter and long stays
    • Animals that are shy/shutdown and need socialization in the home
    • Animals with behavior needs
    • Animals that are on medical treatment
    • Animals that are too young to be adopted
    • Animals that are bottle feeding and need additional care
    • Senior pets
  • To foster-to-adopt a pet, we recommend contacting our adoptions team if you have questions or concerns about which pets qualify or how a pet may fit with your lifestyle. Call (512) 805-2657 or email animaladoptions@sanmarcostx.gov.

Before you start your foster journey you will meet with the coordinator and get set up with an animal.
